Seventh Day: Festive Food

Food is one of the most important aspects of a party. Keeping your guests bellies full and their drinks filled is key. Here’s some simple ideas for some festive party food!

Mini Sausage Wreath: This is easy and decorative!

Mini sausages
Refrigerated crescent dough rolls
Red bell pepper
Diced rosemary
1/3 butter
½ cup BBQ sauce
½ cup whole berry cranberry sauce

Preheat the oven as specified on the crescent roll package. Unroll the crescent roll dough and cut into 32 small rectangles. Drain the liquid off the mini sausages first and then wrap one rectangle around each sausage. Place the wrapped sausages in a wreath shape and bake 11-15 minutes or until golden brown. Melt 1/3 cup of butter and brush on top. Sprinkle the rosemary on top and cut your bell pepper into the shape of a bow for garnishing. Last combine the BBQ sauce and cranberry sauce in a small pan over low heat and serve for dipping.

Snowman Cheese Ball

3 (8 oz) packages softened cream cheese
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons basil pesto
1 tablespoon grated onion
½ teaspoon tallow mustard
2 drops red pepper sauce
1 container (4 ounces) softened whipped cream cheese
Assorted crackers

Mix 3 packages cream cheese and the cheddar cheese and divide into three equal parts. Combine two parts and mix in the pesto. In the third part, mix in onion, mustard and pepper sauce. Cover each mixture and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to firm the mixture. After that, shape each cheese mixture into a ball like a snowman body and freeze. Remove from freezer 12 hours or so before serving and allow to thaw in refrigerator. Arrange the balls on a serving plate with the larger on bottom, smaller on top and frost with the whipped cream cheese. You can decorate it as you please and serve with crackers!

Santa Crackers

Round butter crackers
Pepperoni slices
Ricotta cheese

Cut the pepperoni slices into triangle to serve as the Santa hat at the top of the cracker. Put the ricotta cheese into a Ziploc bag making sure it is closed all the way. Cut a hole in the corner of the bag and pipe the cheese along the bottom of the “Santa hat” and to form the beard. Use the cheese as a glue to attach the capers to the cracker as eyes. Slice the celery and attach the same way for a mustache with a little dot for the nose.

Reindeer Food

6 cups Rice Chex or Chocolate Chex cereal
1 (12 oz) bag white vanilla baking chips
1/3 cup crushed peppermint candy canes (about 14 mini canes)

Line cookie sheet with foil or wax paper to begin. Place your cereal in a large bowl. In a separate microwaveable bowl, microwave the white vanilla baking chips uncovered for about a minute and a half stirring every 30 seconds. Do so until the chips stir smoothly and add in your crushed peppermint. Pour the mixture over the cereal and toss to coat evenly. Spread the mixture on the cookie sheet and sprinkle with the remaining candy canes and let sit for about 20 minutes. Carefully break up the coated cereal and enjoy!

North Pole Cupcakes

1 package Betty Crocker white cake mix
1 container Betty Crocker whipped vanilla frosting
18 candy canes
18 red candy coated chocolate candies
White sprinkles or sanding sugar
“North Pole” signs

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and add your cupcake liners to your cupcake pan. Prepare the cupcakes according to instructions on the box and let cool. Frost the cupcakes and sprinkle with the white sprinkles. Next break the curved part of the candy canes so you have a straight stick to use as your pole and enter into the center of each cupcake. Place the red candy on the top of the cane using frosting to secure and add your North Pole sign the same way. Cute right?!
