Skintones: Warm vs Cool

One of my biggest pet peeves is knowing your skin undertone. It saddens me to see women walking around wearing the wrong type of foundation for their skin undertone.

You’ve seen them, too ... women with makeup that just looks a little, well, off.

There are two skin undertones you can be, warm or cool. Warm undertones have more yellow in them and cool undertones have more blue.

I’m a warm undertone, I have lots of yellow pigments in my skin. Knowing that, if you saw me with a cool tone of makeup on, I would have an almost pinkish look to me. It’s not attractive now that I know what I’m looking for!

If I were a cool tone and applied a warm tone of makeup, it would give a washed out appearance to my makeup. Once again, unless you were a makeup consultant for years you wouldn’t notice it too much, you would just know something didn’t quite look right.

No one wants their makeup to look off. You spend all that time and all that money on putting your best face forward!

I would suggest going to a makeup counter and having a makeup consultant assist you. If they apply both a cool and warm tone foundation next to one another (going shades darker than your skin tone really helps) it will be obvious which tone you are.

After getting the test done (and possibly purchasing a foundation) you’ll be able to start looking at foundations differently.

Your undertone will never change. Knowing your undertone is so important to creating a flawless face.
