S’more Nights at Stubblefield Campground

On a few choice nights of the semester, when the stars align and my circle of friends find themselves free of homework and commitments on a Friday evening, we pack into a car with tents, hammocks and an embarrassing amount of s’more supplies and head out on an adventure.

As it grows dark, we cruise closer to Huntsville, with the windows down blasting all the music we can find in the car. Without warning, the scraggly trees slope into towering pines. It’s as if in an hour of driving we have made it out of Texas, and into another world.

When we arrive at Sam Houston National Forest, the woods are silent, cool, and green; offering a much needed escape from the florescent lights of the classroom and the noise of college station. We build a fire and talk about the week, avoiding the subjects of school and stress, and share the hilarious happenings of late. There is something calming about those nights, being outdoors in the quiet with close friends.

As I fall asleep to the sound of crickets, I wonder why I don’t do this every weekend. It is the best stress reliever I know.

If you need to get away for the weekend, head out to Sam Houston National Park.

It is BEAUTIFUL.

There are pine trees, hiking trails, and it is only 10 dollars a night to camp.

Check out Stubblefield Campground in Sam Houston National Forest, pack up some friends and head out for a relaxing weekend.

Make sure you bring:
Bug spray
S’more supplies/favorite snacks
Firewood
Lighter fluid
Matches
10$ for the campground fee
A tent with a rain cover
Sleeping bags
Pillows
