Spookily Good Sips

It’s Thirsty Thursday y’all and it happens to be one of my favorite times of year, Halloween! The costumes, creepy decorations, haunted houses, pumpkin carving, candy; I just can’t get enough of it all. But it’s not just about the decorations and costumes, the food and drinks must coincide with the spooky theme of course! Just in time, I bring you not one but two cocktails and a creepy appetizer that’s sure to give your Halloween parties that eerie feel.

Let me start by introducing you to the Bloody Black Widow and the Spooky Screwdriver. The star in these creepy cocktails is the Blavod black vodka. Who knew such a thing even existed?! Sure blew my mind.

Bloody Black Widow:

• 2 oz Blavod black vodka, very cold
• 3 oz chilled cranberry juice

Spooky Screwdriver:

• 2 oz Blavod black vodka, very cold
• 3 oz pulp-free orange juice

Pretty simple, right? A bottle of Blavod vodka runs at about $20 or so, making this spooky drink scarily affordable! To showcase the vibrant colors in these drinks, it’s best to use a clear cocktail glass. Fill your glass with ice, pour in either cranberry or orange juice, and add in the black vodka. The picture displays what the drinks look like unmixed but after you get a good look at it make sure to mix it before drinking! To add a little more Halloween flare, give your guests a fake finger as a mixing stick or add in some eyeballs or creepy crawlers for frills.

Moving on to the appetizer, if you’re like me deviled eggs haunt your dreams (in a good way of course). Usually these delights are made around Thanksgiving or Christmas but here’s the Halloween version.

Bloodshot Eyeballs:

• 6 eggs
• 3 cups hot water
• 2 tbsp red food coloring
• 1 tbsp white vinegar
• 1/3 cup mayo
• ¼ cup chopped green onions
• 2 tbsp cilantro
• 2 tsp Dijon mustard
• 12 sliced ripe olives
• 1 tsp ketchup

These take around 40 minutes to prepare but I promise they’re worth it y’all! Start off by boiling the eggs. Place them in a single layer in a large pot and fill with water to about an inch above the eggs. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, remove from the heat and let them stand in the water for an additional 15 minutes. Then place the eggs in ice water to cool them completely and gently crack the eggs all over, but don’t peel them!

In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of hot water, the red food coloring and vinegar then add the eggs in the bloody mix. Make sure eggs are completely covered by the colored water, if not add more hot water. Let them stand for 30 minutes, remove and peel. Coolest looking eggs ever!

Cut the eggs in half long ways, place the yellow yolks in a separate bowl, and set the whites aside on a serving dish. To have them lay flat, cut off a portion of the bottom with a knife. Mash the yolks and add in the mayo, onions, cilantro and mustard. Once you’ve created that mixture, add it into the bloodshot whites. The last step before devouring is to add an olive slice filled with ketchup to create the eyeballs and whip out your cell phone because we all know you’re going to want to Facebook this creation.

That’s all for this Thirsty Thursday! I leave you with this fantastic Halloween mantra… Eat, drink and be scary. For some great costume ideas, don’t forget to check out our Fashion for Everyone blog! Have a safe and FUN Halloween y’all!
