Tailgating Style: Bloody Mary’s & Baconators

Hey y’all, Kathleen Cooke here bringing you the first Thirsty Thursday! In honor of this weekend’s Texas A&M football game vs. Arkansas, I bring you Thirsty Thursday, Tailgate Style.

With an early kickoff of 11:21AM, tailgating is going to start at the crack of dawn. What better way to kick off SEC Football Saturday than a spicy Bloody Mary?! My mouth is watering as I type and the fact it’s so simple to make is even better.

This recipe makes 10 delicious Bloody Marys for all you tailgaters.

All you need is:

• 10 ounces of your favorite vodka
• 30 ounces tomato juice
• 20 dashes red hot sauce
• 20 dashes green hot sauce
• 10 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
• 5 ounces lemon juice
• 10 pinches salt
• 10 pinches pepper
• 10 stalks of celery (for garnishing)

In a large pitcher, throw all the ingredients (except the celery) together and mix thoroughly. Easy, right?!

There are several variations of this drink including adding horseradish, doubling the wow factor by adding your favorite Mexican beer or tequila, or substituting the tomato juice with clamato. After what was probably a long week, this simple recipe will be a crowd pleaser as is if you don’t feel like getting fancy. I suggest making these the night before or the morning of at home so you don’t have to drag all the ingredients with you. Don’t worry; I have the perfect way to get them to the game coming your way! Prepare the celery for garnishing and throw in a Ziploc to bring with you.

Now that you’ve made your morning cocktail, for an easy transport from home to the game, I suggest using mason jars. Not only does it make you look like a Pinterest superstar, but everyone can easily grab one from the cooler and continue on with tailgate shenanigans without the mess. All you’ll need is mason jars with lids and a cooler filled with ice. Pour the homemade Bloody Mary in the jars, put them in the cooler and you are game day ready!

To compliment your Bloody Marys, satisfy your friends growling stomach (and soak up that alcohol!) with what I like to call, Baconator Muffins. They’re beyond easy and a great recipe for your kids to help out with!

Ingredients needed:

• 1 package biscuit dough (10 biscuits)
• 3 eggs
• 3 tablespoons milk
• 1/3 cup of shredded cheddar
• 4 slices bacon (or more depending how meaty you want them)
• Pinch of salt and pepper

First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees. While you’re waiting for the oven to warm up, cook the bacon until almost done. Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt and pepper and set aside. If you’re as obsessed with spicy food as I am, chop up some jalapeños and add into the mix for some extra flavor. After that, roll each biscuit out until they are a little bigger than the size of your muffin tin. Grease the muffin tin and place one biscuit into each muffin cup making sure to push it against all sides while leaving the excess hanging over the rim. Next, add cheese into each biscuit and pour the egg mixture in filling it halfway. This allows room for the biscuit to expand while cooking. Add some bacon on top of the eggs and you’re done! Bake the muffins for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and the eggs are done as well.

These recipes are sure to be a hit at your tailgate Saturday and you still have time to run to the grocery store for ingredients before the big game! Get to it y’all and BTHO Arkansas!
