BRYAN- Downtown Bryan transformed into a melting pot as thousands of people from all different cultures of the world collided into one.

They're celebrating Fiestas Patrias, which is a national festival that celebrates the unity of cultures in our nation, and in Bryan.

"It's crazy!" said Pearla Guevara, who attended the event. She said she has lived in Bryan whole life and grew up going to the parade since she can remember and brought her nephew to the parade to see the thriving mix of cultures he lives in.

"I can't believe a lot of people, not only hispanics, but caucasians, African Americans," Guevara said. "It's awesome that they give them this opportunity to experience this event."

Fiestas Patrias began in the early 1990s and brings about 25,000 people to downtown Bryan each year.

"It's nice to be able to connect with the community," said Daniel Hernandez, a Bryan native. "We're Americans first and we celebrate that while we celebrate and enjoy the cultures of other countries."

One of the hottest attractions of the festival: The Aggie Band kicking off the parade.

"I think it's good to come out here to see the band, that means there are a lot of Aggie fans out there," said 11-year-old Daniel DeMoor, who attended the festival for the first time. "I think it's interesting that a lot of people from all different cultures have come here to celebrate this in all."

And he believes it has successfully brought the community together as one.
