Bikini Season is here! If fighting the crowds to go running in circles at the REC just isn’t your thing, and you feel like a hamster when you step on a treadmill: check out these great parks and go for a trail run instead.
Off of College Avenue, a short walking distance from campus is Hensel Park. The unpaved trails at Hensel Park are unique because they wind though tall bamboo. This is a great place to run if you don’t have much time, or you live on campus. This park has everything from running trails, to picnic areas, a pavilion, and lots of open fields for playing Frisbee letting your dog get some energy out. Hensel Park is the perfect site for a mid-day picnic between classes, going for a run after school, or simply meeting up with friends to play Ultimate Frisbee.
Lick Creek Park is one of the best places to go trail running in College Station, if you are ok with a little bit of a drive. It is out on Rock Prairie Road off of William D. Fitch Parkway. The park currently offers several miles of trails for running, hiking, or even horseback riding!
Another great park closer to Texas A&M’s campus is Wolf Pen Creek Park. This park has paved running trails, and winds through trees, over bridges and next to a small creek. This park is green and shady, so this is a great place to go for a run as it gets hotter. This park is located off of Harvey Mitchell road, before you reach the mall. Sometimes there are concerts at the Wolf Pen Amphitheatre, so you may go for a run, and end up enjoying some great local music afterwards!
