Do you ever have those moments where you want to do something entertaining but you're just not sure exactly what that is? Make an activity spinner that allows your children to choose which activity to do based on where it lands on the wheel! You can do this for fun activities on family night, chore lists, or anything else you deem appropriate. Let the wheel decide!
To make the spinner and the wheel, you will need:
A piece of cardboard
Crayons or markers
1 square tipped screw
Use a round plate or a round lid to trace a circle on a piece of cardstock and on the cardboard. It should be at least six inches in diameter in order for it to be big enough for children to write or draw on the divided sections.
Cut the circle out of the cardstock and cardboard, then glue the two pieces together. Help your child find the center of the circle. One way to do this is to trace the circle again on a piece of white computer paper and fold it over three times (making sure all the edges meet) until it resembles a slice of pie. Open the paper over and you can see exactly where the center is and the slices of the "pie" would be. By placing it on top of the cut cardstock and tracing the lines heavily, you will be able to see the imprint of the sections on the cardstock. Using a ruler, help your children divide the circle into six parts.
To make the spinner, draw an arrow for your children on the cardstock and have them cut it out. Then trace it on the cardboard, cut it out, and glue the two arrows together.
Let your children brainstorm ideas for fun activities to do together. They should choose six and can either write or draw each of the activities on the sections of the circle. Next, punch a hole in the center of the circle and on the arrow. Insert the screw from the bottom of the circle and thread the arrow through it, securing it with the nut. Allow space for the arrow to spin.
Now you're all done and ready to have some fun!
