Living in Texas, our skin goes through a lot. The sun, the humidity, sweating from the heat, cold one day … scorching the next, the weather is not our skin’s best friend. If you treat your skin right, it will reward you for years.

The first thing you need to do is figure out is what your skin type is. There are four categories: Normal/Dry, Normal/Oily, Oily and Sensitive. Knowing your skin type and how to handle it will fix most problems you have with your skin and keep it from showing signs of aging.

Everyone needs to start with exfoliating! By doing that, you’re removing all of the dead skin and allowing the skin care you’ve purchased to really work. I would suggest exfoliating two to three times a week. I like to exfoliate at night because my face gets really red!

You should have three products regardless of your skin type: a face wash, toner and moisturizer.

The face wash will clean off all the dirt on the top of your skin, the toner will get deeper because it is a liquid and the moisturizer will help to fight wrinkles and further balance out your skin.

Now, before you start second guessing me and saying you have oily skin you don’t need a moisturizer … hear me out. Oil and moisturizers are completely different things. In fact, if you start using a moisturizer for oily skin, you will likely see less oil!

If you have a seriously oily skin (I did at one point) make sure you’re using something with salicylic acid. Not only does this type of acid clear up acne problems, it will also dry up oil!

Read the labels on products. When you make sure you’re using the product that works best for your face and using it twice a day (morning and night) you will see a huge difference in the way your skin looks and feels.

Next week, this blog will move to Tuesday! We’ll talk more about skin care and what you should use to put your best face forward.

As always, if you have any makeup or skin care questions, email them to
