Today, there are many ways to meet someone to potentially date. However, it can be hard when you know you’re not the type that makes the first move like me. Lately, I’ve been wondering for awhile how to enter the dating world again.
I struggle, it was so much easier back in high school when you didn’t have to go too far to find someone to date (except everyone else wanted to date the same person too)! College guys are usually just looking for a hookup here and there, so it can be hard to find a serious guy among that bunch, but it can be done! Post college dating can get even more difficult, most likely you're working all the time and the last thing on your mind is finding a spouse. Have no fear, I am here with some places to meet a date and maybe even your mate!
Due to my dating research, I want to give some insight about meeting people at various locations. There are pros and the cons to each setting, but hopefully they’ll help you as well as myself make the best decisions on where to meet people when looking to date.
When I think about getting back into the dating world I get nervous, excited, and slightly paranoid. Should I go somewhere looking for a potential boyfriend or just let it happen naturally? In my opinion boyfriend scouting makes me look desperate, but if I wait I’ll feel like nothing is going to happen. Patience is not my best virtue, and if you're anything like me, you're ready to get out there. Here are several places you could meet someone: bars, clubs, online, and everywhere in between.
I know this sounds sketchy, but really it's not.
Personally, I want a guy that likes to go out, let loose, and have a good time. This makes meeting someone at a bar or club an ideal location. Whoever you meet there must be a social and outgoing person. Two musts in a relationship!
Also, you can learn a lot about someone when their hanging out at the bar. If a guy likes to dance, that’s great. If a guy is always watching music videos to make sure he knows all of the latest dances, then he’s probably too in touch with his feminine side. A guy that is looking well groomed before stepping out to go clubbing is always a plus, he obviously takes good care of himself, which means he probably takes care of other things in his life. If the guy has taken more time than you to get ready, you might want to reconsider this guy’s potential as your boyfriend and make him one of your best friends that will help you find the perfect guy.
But... when it comes to the bar scene, some guys are creeps! If a guy is too persistent on getting you drunk, please take that as a warning to run! They're not looking for any kind of relationship from you!
The idea of meeting someone online still comes off as strange to me. At the same time, it’s becoming a norm of the dating world. Just because it weirds me out a bit, doesn't mean I don't know many people who have had successful relationships that began online. Really, dating online has a lot of advantages that have made it easier to find dates.
When looking online, you’ve got a huge selection of people to pick from. You can read a person’s profile and if you find that you’re not interested, then you don’t have to waste your time and can just ignore the person. You don’t have to have the dreaded awkward conversations and if they come off as a little strange to you, then they can be easily blocked. Just do not give out too much personal information!
A huge negative for me is that you have to pay. If I’m going to be investing my time and money on an online dating site, I better be matched with the man of my dreams and not some loser! Lying comes in as a close second, and everyone lies in the online world (let’s all be honest here).
Everywhere In between
When I say ‘everywhere in between,’ I mean places like the grocery store, the park, cafeteria on campus, mall, etc. It’s just the places that you normally go to and maybe by chance you’ll run into a cutie on your way.
The negative I run across with this one is that (like I said) I’m not one of those people that doesn’t make a first move. If we seem to be checking each other out, I’ll be too shy to come over and talk. Sadly, it just turns out to be a missed opportunity for me.
I hope I helped you figure out some of the best options of how to get back into the dating world. I plan on following my own advice and seeing how my dating life will turn out. Who knows, maybe I’ll even give online dating a try!
