I always think about decorating the living area and my bedroom, but I pretty much neglect my bathroom. Some people might say it doesn’t need to be decorated, but so many guests have been in my bathroom and right now it just has plain white walls. This week I decided to spruce up my bathroom.
I saw an idea on Pinterest for using doilies and canvas to make pretty art. I decided that would be a good, neutral decoration for the bathroom.
For this project I purchased a bunch of doilies (32 for $1 at the Dollar Store), a canvas (it was on sale 2 for $7.99 at Hobby Lobby), and a small bottle of spray paint. I chose blue cause I wanted the doilies to look kind of like clouds.
To begin, I held one doily in the corner and spray painted over it to transfer the design onto the canvas. Then I held a second one down and spray-painted over it. Then, tragedy struck. My screened-in patio might block the rain, but it certainly doesn’t block the wind. When I let go of the doilies to grab a third one, the wind picked up and the doilies on the canvas blew around, smudging the paint in the lower right corner and somehow getting paint all over me. I thought about chucking this canvas and starting anew on the other canvas I had gotten, but then I figured I had wanted this to look like clouds, and clouds are rarely perfect doilies anyway. So I decided to keep the smudge. But to prevent it from happening again, I taped all four of the doilies in place before I started spraying again.
I made sure to cover the whole canvas in paint, focusing on the little details of the doilies. Once I was finished, I peeled up the doilies and let the canvas dry. I was really happy with the way it turned out, other than the smudge. I would definitely suggest taping all the doilies in place from the beginning though.
