Layer, Layer, and Layer!

Try a Simple Trend

Hey Fashionistas! I'm just a clothes-loving gal here to give my weekly fashion advice. I'll share lots of style tips and tricks, but first I want to start off with how to dress for work. I believe that clothes express who you are and nothing should stop you from letting your personality show through no matter what! So, here it goes..

For me, dressing for work is a huge task. I can’t stand it. For some reason, someone somewhere created the rule you have to dress a certain way for the office. I get it, we have to look professional, but looking professional is commonly mistaken for boring. Everyone looking and dressing the same gets really old and that’s why I think it’s important to maintain your personal style while looking work appropriate.

So, just because you’re going to work doesn’t mean you have to conform. My pet peeve is when people dress in the same boring black business suit with the same boring black shoes. Don’t get me wrong. I love the color black and some of my staple pieces are my black blazer and pants, but spice things up a bit. Here are some tips:

Add some color. This could be anything from a shoe to piece of statement jewelry to a flashy belt. Recently I even purchased some maroon colored pants from Express. I’m in love. Quick hint: Express has awesome work clothes, they can be pricey if you don’t have a coupon, but they’re really good about it. Plus, there’s a rewards program too. Click here to check it out!

Next, mix and match. Just because you bought something together, doesn’t mean it has to stay together. Try putting a colored blazer with your black pants or wearing your black blazer with a dress. Or Maybe you like the skirt that came with it, but don’t feel like being too fancy today. Wear the skirt and throw on a large comfy sweater. I personally like to get longer sweaters that are a little big for comfort. I just recently became obsessed with the Mossimo Supply Co. Boyfriend Cardigan from Target. Also, don’t be scared to just try something! Don’t just say, “that wouldn’t look good,” because you never know.

Which brings me to layering your pieces, one of the best ways to look fashion forward is to layer. Also if you’re like me you’re always cold. Layering can fix that. Again, this will help you with adding color as well as mix and matching pieces. I like to layer with sweaters (which if you haven’t figured out yet, I think they are one of God’s gifts to women) Say you’re favorite shirt is a tank you like to wear out on the town, you can wear it to work too! Add a sweater or blazer with that sucker and you’re good.

Finally, try a trend. Adding a trend into your work attire will keep everyone guessing and keep you looking on top of your fashion game. Where can you find trends? Check out myCW8 on Pintrest (mycw8) and we will help you out! Don’t have to time to go to Pintrest right now? I got you covered. Some easy trends to do right now are colored nails, adding a braid, putting on a red lip, or trying a colored pant like I did!

Our lesson for the week, you can mix work and pleasure. Have any other tips for work clothes? Leave me a comment below! I’m always up for trying something new.
