Halloween is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you haven’t decided what you’re going to wear yet! Renting and buying a costume can be expensive, uncomfortable, and you're taking the risk of coming of cheap. So, I say invent your own costume! Here are some of my all time favorite home-made costumes, modeled by a few friends over the years!
If you’re looking for something more cutesy and fun dress like a fairy! It's my favorite costume, plus it's simple! All you’ll need for this is a leotard (which can be found at a thrift store or Wal-Mart), tights or leggings, and a tutu! To make sure your tutu fits just the right way, make your own! Finally, Add lots of glitter, and top it off wings and a fairy crown! Other ideas you can try with your leo and tutu are Honey Boo Boo, a pretty princess, or even a witch! The leotard and tutu ensemble can be worked a variety of ways depending on how you accessorize and what colors you decide to wear!
If you like to live life on the wild side, go Mean Girls style, “In girl world Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut, and no other girls can say anything about it.” If you decide to go down this path, throw on your little black dress, your best going out heels, and “some form of animals ears.” Personally, I’d go with cat ears. Add some whiskers with eyeliner, glittery makeup, and pink lips, and you’re good to go! Come on, a black cat is the perfect outfit for Halloween right? Meow.
Okay, so I couldn't find a friend dressed like this, so I'm going to substitute this hilarious picture.
Finally, if you’re not much for playing dressing up, these classic costumes are a little easier to pull off.
A hippie! Throw on your cut off shorts, sandals, some tie dye, add hair braids, and a headband for an effortless costume!
Or try the redneck, again with cut offs, add cowboys boots, a flannel or camo shirt, a bandana, and any t-shirt cut to your liking!
Most likely, these items are in your very own closet and easy to put on for that last minute party!
I hope this helps you decide what to wear this Halloween! Have any other home-made costume ideas? Send me a picture and I could use it online!
