Build Your Own Fort

This past week was spring break for the local College Station community and I decided to spend some of my time visiting family. Two of my younger cousins and I decided to build our own fort inside one of the bedrooms at my house.

We grabbed all the blankets, sheets, and towels we could find to help in building our very own fort. We even used the window curtains at one point to help make our fort longer. The different weight and textures of these various materials helped us with the structure. For example, at times some of the blankets we chose to use were too heavy to be placed on certain areas so we needed to switch them out for a lighter sheet or towel. Luckily, the layout of this particular room allowed us to create our own fort without really having to move too much of the furniture. We used the already created open spaces between the bed, desk, and wall as the open spaces within the fort itself.

The great thing about building your own fort is that there really is no wrong way to go about this. You can make your fort as long, high, or complex as you want!

If you do decide to create your own fort, you can make an entire eventing out of it. You can use pillows, blankets, and even air mattresses within the fort to make it cozy. Be warned: your children may even want to sleep in their fort once they're done creating it!

If you decide to go for a camping theme, you can use flashlights in the fort, make s'mores over your stove, and tell ghost stories as the night goes on. Your fort could also be a castle and your children could rule over their very own kingdom.

Your only limitation is your imagination!
