I said two weeks ago that I’d probably be using chalkboard paint for several projects, just because I finally had some on hand. I proved myself correct this week. I had seen on Pinterest once a project that involved chalkboard painting the inside of a medicine cabinet door. I thought it was a great idea since I have to open that door every morning to get ready for the day, and I could use it as a space for reminders. Unfortunately, as a renter, I don’t have the freedom to just go around spray painting things in my apartment. I gave up on doing this project.
Last week, my mom got me a new set of sheets for my birthday. Folded neatly inside the sheets was a piece of cardboard, to keep the packaging square. The piece of cardboard fit perfectly on the door of my medicine cabinet, and I realized I could spray paint it and attach it to the door. Same concept, but renter friendly.
This project was free for me. I only needed the cardboard (which I already had), the chalkboard paint (which I still had from before), and tape to attach it to the door. All I did was spray paint the entirety of the cardboard with a very thick coat of paint, let it dry overnight, and tape it to the inside of the door. And now I have a very useful chalkboard reminder area.
My suggestion to people who may want to do this project is to find really smooth cardboard, or perhaps lightweight plastic. The cardboard I used has very deep ridges in it, so when I write on it my words get distorted. But since I’m the only one who’s going to read my reminders it’s not really a big deal to me.
