DIY Lace Bowl

I seem to always be in need of new places to put things around my house. The amount of things I have accumulated over the years still astounds me. I remember there were always products made of lace lying around the house when I was growing up so for this week's project, I decided to go back to my childhood memories for inspiration. Lace bowls are easy to make and can be used to store virtually anything you want. Here's what you have to do:

Materials needed:
Lace doilies
Fabric stiffener
Bowl (size depends on the size of your lace doily)

1. Gather your materials. I bought the spray bottle of fabric stiffener and lace doilies from Wal-Mart.

2. Place the lace doily over an upside down bowl and spray it completely with the fabric stiffener.

3. Smooth the edges of the doily down either entirely flat against the bowl or somewhat flat, depending on your preference for the finished bowl. I decided not to flatten the edges on mine so that it would end up with scalloped edges.

4. Allow the doily to dry on the bowl completely for a few hours.

5. Repeat the process for 2 or 3 more times depending on how stiff you want the fabric to be.

6. When completely dry, the fabric will be stiff and the bowl will be ready to use.

While the drying process does take some time, the end product is definitely worth it!
