Easy Valentine's Day Craft and Dessert

Once again the season of love is upon us. As you teach your kids about Valentine's Day and the meaning of the holiday, remind them that it is also a time of appreciation for all those we care about in our lives and those who care about us.

Last weekend, my younger cousin Katie and I went searching for a fun and simple Valentine's Day craft for her mother. As we searched stores for inspiration, we found the perfect thing at Hobby Lobby, a wooden tile board (that also can be hung up as if it were a picture). This particular tile board had nine separate smaller pieces that fit together on a larger board as if they were a puzzle.

On the drive home Katie brainstormed ideas for the design and decided that she wanted to place the phrase "I love you to pieces" on it with hearts and flowers in between each word. With just a pack of markers, Katie was able to design a cute board that she could give her mother! We also decided to use foam glue (that can also be used on wood) to glue each of the pieces to the board so that the entire piece could hang on the wall of her home. This was such a simple craft requiring few resources, and it featured the main ingredient, a child's imagination!

If you enjoy cooking with your children, here is a simple dessert that's perfect for the holiday.

You will need five ingredients:
10 inch Angel Food Cake
12 oz. container of Cool Whip
1 large package of Jello Vanilla instant pudding (5.1 oz.)
1 can of cherry pie filling (21 oz.)
2 cups of milk

Begin by gently tearing the Angel Food Cake into small-sized chunks, placing them in a rectangular casserole dish, and setting it aside. Mix the pudding with only 2 cups of cold milk using a small hand mixer for about a minute. It will be slightly thick. Fold in the Cool Whip and mix until smooth. Spoon the pudding/cool whip mixture in between the cake chunks and spread smoothly on top of the entire cake. Spread the cherry pie filling on top and you're done! Store in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve. If you prefer, you can use fresh sliced strawberries instead of the pie filling.

This is a delicious dessert that your children will enjoy helping you make!
