Burning yourself sucks. But let’s face it, at some point or another it happens to all of us. Whether it be from cooking and grabbing the wrong part of a boiling pot, clipping your finger or arm while straightening your hair, or setting your hand down on a hot stove top, we’ve all experienced that ouch moment. The annoying thing about burns is that the pain is not only immediate during the initial contact, but then stings for a long period of time after that as well. So I have found a ridiculously easy solution for this pain that you never would have thought of.
I know it sounds crazy, but believe me it really works! Now remember this home remedy only works on minor burns (1st degree). It’s simply a pain reliever not a medicine or healing aid. Do not try this if you have a severe burn that has opened up the skin or immediately started to blister. In that case you should seek professional help. But when you do have a small accident and burn yourself, this is all you have to do:
Run the burned part of your body under cold water, to initially stop the burn and ease the pain.
Then, take refrigerated mustard and squeeze a dab onto the burned area. Smooth it out over the entire burn, and then just let it be. You should almost immediately feel the pain from the burn subsiding. You can let it sit there until the mustard dries up, and if the burn begins to sting again you can repeat this process until that pain is all gone.
It really is just as simple as that! There must be something magical about mustard! So if you happen to accidentally brush by a clothes iron or set that hand on a hot stove, give it a try and you’ll be surprised how your usual hotdog topper transforms into an instant pain reliever.
