BRYAN, TEXAS -- New Year's Resolutions become almost comical as you approach adulthood. Most people become "too busy," "forgetful," "overwhelmed," or just flat out lazy. The pace of today's society can cause us to be very busy, forgetful at times, give us mental break downs after "one of those days," and everyone needs a day off. But if what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, isn't a New Year's Resolution worth fighting for?
Popular New Year's Resolutions usually consist of cutting down cursing, saving more money, more volunteering, recycling, drink less alcohol, eating healthier, and of course losing weight.
Breaking a habit, changing a lifestyle, or reforming a daily routine is not easy for anyone. In fact, it is said that it takes 21 days to "break a habit." That may or may not be entirely true depending on your particular circumstance, but the first 21 days are the most crucial in deciding whether or not a real change will take place.
Sticking to your guns, especially for the first 14 days, will strengthen your will power and ability to see results for a better you. But don't feel like you have to do it alone!
Every trip is more enjoyable if it's spent with someone you care about right? Why not take a loved one on your New Year's Resolution journey? You may find a partner with the same goals as you, there's a chance they may be different. No matter what your goals are personally, find a partner that will be able to give you positive reinforcement and tough love when the times are right. If you find that mutual understanding and balance, it will be much easier to view your goals as attainable.
As cliché as it sounds, a positive attitude really can make a world of difference. It raises your spirits, motivation, and energy levels. Don't try to do too much at once, but know that each day that you put forth a solid effort to reaching your goal, you should be proud of your progress.
Changes aren't made overnight, and Rome wasn't built in a day. No matter what your New Year's Resolution is this year, take each day one day at a time and KNOW that you can do it!
