College Station, TX Carly Cares:
Feel free to leave me a comment! I may not be Oprah Winfrey, or have the fashion sense of Elle Woods, but I care about YOU and have so much to share with you when it comes to loving yourself-especially since Jesus loved you first! Enjoy these tips and suggestions to make your Friday even better!
Food for thought:
Aah, the weekend has arrived yet again, and by the time you read this I will be on my way to Dallas to spend a full week with my family and friends—because guess what time of the year it is people- S P R I N G B R E A K 2014!!!!!!!!!!!! That only means (weather permitting) a lot of popsicles, mom’s chicken salad sandwiches, sweet tea, watermelon, smoothies, Aunt MA’s pink cloud, and homemade suppers! Spring Break comes at a perfect time of the year where you’re almost maxed out on work and midterms but still have energy to go off to a faraway land-or home for me.
This Friday, my suggestion for food is going to be all things road trip goodies!
Is Buc-ee’s a Texas only thing? …just checked for y’all-it is, but here are all of the locations for Buc-ee’s gas stations before you leave the state:
If you’ve never been, but have been wondering why there’s a huge beaver face every fifty miles approaching it, take a potty break and look around. If the incentive of HUGE CLEAN bathrooms isn’t enough-their food variety (and clothes if I might add) will sell you! Go to their deli and get their sausage on a stick! If you’re wanting something quick and easy, Buc-ee’s has the biggest selection of beef jerky I’ve ever seen! Fudge, studded rhinestone hats, and homemade salsa-oh my! Random? You betchya! Oh- and all the while, you can fill up your car too!
Coffee with Carly:
‘Behind every successful person is a substantial amount of coffee'... if you want to meet me for a warm cup of joe I’m always ready for a good conversation! For this Friday, since you’ve been the superhero of your life, revive your body and become replenished with green tea. I’ve been doing a lot of research and have read that coffee could be worse for us than we think.
I HATE TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS-
but I’ve been noticing multiple break outs on my chin and by doing my homework I’ve come to the conclusion that coffee might be the cause of it. (Ok, you’re probably thinking-‘Well yea Carly if you add 18 pumps of flavored syrup, 5 tablespoons of creamer, and 47 spoonful’s of sugar!!’)
But hear me out coffee lovers- even taking your coffee au natural stands in the way of clear skin. Coffee reduces our insulin sensitivity, and the body responds by producing more. More insulin=more inflammation=more follicular blockage. (Big words I know-but if you have the same problem-listen up!) Coffee and caffeinated drinks (EVEN DECAF folks) also increase testosterone, which can contribute to break outs/acne etc.
So instead, I’m going to try and start drinking some tea for the next couple of weeks to satisfy my caffeine needs.
When I drink green tea, I usually buy a box of Tazo at HEB, put about three bags in my cup, heat in the microwave, and add lemon. I L O V E lemon. If you do too, don’t forget to also buy some Pronamel toothpaste!
So start this journey with me if you have problems with your skin! I know some celebrities try to encourage us to ‘love the skin we’re in’ but…some of us can’t afford Microdermabrasion, and snake venom facials…so we have to start from the inside out, and unfortunately that causes for us coffee lovers some sacrifices.
Friday is a day to let loose, reflect on your week (hectic or not) and start to unwind-by perhaps turning on the radio at work, on your ipod after your last class, or in your car.
This Friday is especially fantastical (well for students that is) because it’s the beginning of Spring Break 2014!! Seniors, it’s our last spring break we will ever get ever, juniors second to last…freshman/sophomores-you’ve got a while…and for those grown-ups this is a time for better weather and a countdown to summer time off! So guess what that means? Playlist party round 3! If you’ve forgotten from my past two posts, a playlist can be music of the same genre, or multiple random hits all put together to make one heck of a CD. A playlist (especially for a long car ride-all by your lonesome, or with friends) should be your absolute-shake-your-booty-dancin-with-myself-cry-because-thinking-about-your-favorite-memories-to-this-song-makes-you-sentimental favorites! Here is what my Spring Break 2014 playlists look like:
A lot of Katy Perry, a lot of Beyonce, a lot of Country, some Beatles, ‘Happy’ by Pharrell, ‘Let it Go’ by Idina Menzel (not Adele Dazeem), ‘Royals’ by Lorde, and ‘Best Day of My Life’ by American Authors.
So far I’ve given you recommendations for ‘Redeeming Love’ by Francine Rivers, ‘Captivating’ and ‘Wild at Heart’ by John and Stasi Eldredge, ‘Crazy Love’ by Fancis Chan, and ‘Youth Aflame’ by Winkie Pratney, and last week I asked you to start writing your own story by journaling-all of these are preparing you to open your heart and mind to a better life with Jesus! Not only do they challenge you to look at a perspective beyond the norm in which you’ve created for yourself, they also encourage you to delve into the possibilities of letting go and letting God-in all aspects of your life. For this week, I’d like to challenge you to take a look at Alyssa Bethke’s blog . She is the wife of Jeff Bethke who created the YouTube sensation that Jesus > Religion hitting at nearly 27 million views it’s so power and so awesome and so real! Watch it watch it watch it! Alyssa’s blog is full of advice, encouragement, and experiences she’s faced. She is so honest and is so generous and brave to share her life with us!
Ok Instagram users! If you want daily reminders of how much Jesus loves you then follow @instapray and get encouraged! While scrolling through selfies and pictures of your friends’ lunch, wouldn’t it be nice to come across some wisdom to live your day by!? I follow them and am constantly filled with happiness every time I read their posts. Their verse for today is “Don’t let your hearts by troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me.” John 14:1. I want each and every one of you to find joy even in social media!
