It’s down to the wire folks. Only 40 days until the 57th Presidential Election. This election looks to be falling into the hands of the young undecided voters of this great nation, but some are saying that these young “undecides” are greatly uninformed about the candidates they are electing. Saturday Night Live made a point of just how society views the undecided voters in a hilarious satirical sketch this past Saturday.
Young voters, in general, have been classically absent at the polls over the course of history, but non-profit organizations like, Rock the Vote, are trying to change that. Their mission is to engage and build political power for young voters in our country.
Celebrities like, Miley Cyrus, Jane Lynch, Neil Patrick Harris and Miranda Cosgrove, have all joined Rock the Vote to help inform young voters of their duty to make informed decisions at the voting booths. The campaign was widely successful in the last election. Over 2.5 million young voters registered to vote through the Rock the Vote website.
More and more, through social media, it is becoming easier to inform yourself of the Presidential candidates and their political views. It is no longer acceptable to play the card of “uninformed,” as an excuse not to hit the voting booths. There are too many websites out there striving to bring you un-biased information on the candidates who are looking to run this great country.
The decision, however, is yours. It’s up to you to decide whom you want as our Commander and Chief. You must take the initiative to stay informed and up-to-date on the candidates at hand. Don’t let the critics think you are an incompetent young voter “just like the rest of them.” Change their minds. Show them your up to the task of choosing the next leader of our great nation. And last, but not least, don’t forget to put your voting pants on and vote for the next President of the United States of America on November, 6, 2012.
