Fall Favorite: Pumpkin Spice Latte

Fall is easily my favorite time of year. I always get a little sentimental, remember past relationships that didn't work out, and start praying for snow. I also tend to keep to myself more. I don't quite know why, but I think it has something to do with the beautiful inspiring weather. It brings out my inner artist and makes me want to paint, write poetry and pretend to be a first rate photographer.

Leaves are orange! The air smells good! Pumpkins and turkeys stand in front of yards! People smile at each other more! I don't care who you are or what your favorite season is, there is no denying that fall is a wonderful time of the year!

It seems to creep up on me. Before I know it Starbucks is serving their pumpkin spice lattes and salted caramel hot chocolates. To be quite honest I always spend too much money on Starbucks drinks during the colder weather days. So I recently decided to spin one of my own. I've always been partial to pumpkin spice lattes. Today I will share with you my personal favorite recipe!

First brew enough coffee for two cups, as this recipe makes two servings. I like strong coffee and made my brew even stronger than normal because its diluted with the milk mixture.

The next step is to make the pumpkin milk add-in. In a pot over the stove, mix 1 cup of milk with 1/4 cup of pumpkin purée. Stir constantly while warming over medium heat. Add 2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie blend spice, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Add two tablespoons of brown sugar. Whisk the ingredients together (using a rubber whisk so you don't scratch your pan!) and stir on medium heat for about a minute.

Pour 1 cup of coffee into a mug and add half of the pumpkin mixture. For a sweet topping, add whipped cream and caramel!
