College can provide a lot of free time with winter, spring, and summer break, and this is the perfect opportunity for students to travel. Traveling is an expensive activity, and can really dig into someone’s pockets. Although, there are ways for students to get their travelling fix. Here are some travelling ideas for students that will also help them save money for later.

1. Study Abroad
Study abroad is a great opportunity to live in another country while in school. The great thing about these programs is that there is usually a lot of amazing scholarships and funding for students. In addition, study abroad looks great on a resume. Whether in your freshmen or sophomore year of school, look into a program that fits your schedule, and apply for scholarships as early as possible.

2. Organized Trips
One thing that I have noticed on campus is that there are always fliers for organized student trips. The great thing about these programs are that they are organized by fellow students who do all the work for you. They plan the excursion, find the best deals, and deal with transportation and lodging. If you and your friends want to do go skiing or take a cruise over spring break, look into your universities trips and see if there is something that fits in your budget.

3. Backpacking
If you are a real outdoorsy person, backpacking can be the best trip you can take. Drive to the Grand Canyon, or to the mountains in Colorado, and hike the trails with some friends. These trips can save money because you’re cooking your own meals, and sleeping in tents. In addition, you can rent backpacking equipment from the university so that you don’t have to purchase all your supplies.

4. Big Groups
Look into vacation destinations and hotels to see if they have group discounts. Most places provide huge discounts for groups of 10 or more. In addition, renting a condo is going to be less expensive the more people you fit inside. Splitting up the cost of hotel rooms, gas money, and food can really make a difference, and big groups vacations are usually a blast!

5. Budget
The best way to save money for trips and the most obvious is to budget. If you want to take a trip to Europe or go on a cruise, plan in advance. Make those smart money saving decisions so that the money you save can go towards your trip. This can include not eating out as much, working more hours, or staying in on the weekends.

College is a great time to participate in a variety of different things, and traveling can be a great learning and entertaining experience. Don’t miss out on a vacation that could change your whole life, and don’t let money get in the way.
