Instead of buying a gift for everyone try these ideas…
1. Secret Santa
I know I spoke about this in my last blog, but secret Santa is a great way to exchange gifts with friends without spending a lot of money. Your friends and you just need to draw names from a hat and have a Christmas party where you give your gifts. You will only need to buy one gift and its fun to choose who gave gifts to whom.
2. Elephant Exchange
An elephant exchange is a lot like secret Santa, but exchanging gifts become more of a game. How it works is that you bring one wrapped gift to a party with all your friends. Everyone draws numbers to see the order of picking gifts. Number one gets to pick whichever gift first. The next person then has the option of “stealing” the gift, or choosing an unwrapped gift. This continues until everyone has a gift, and to make it more strategic, it’s a good idea to give a limit of steals.
3. Don’t Give Gifts
More people today are choosing to sideswipe gifts all together for Christmas. Some people think giving gifts is just exchanging money if its things that people don’t really need. Save yourself and your friends the hassle of going shopping, picking a gift, wrapping, etc., and just the holiday hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.
4. Chip in and Give to Charity
Christmas is the season of giving, right? Instead of giving gifts to friends, donate money to a charity, or spend some time volunteering. Nothing feels better as giving to those who need it.
I love Christmas. I love the carols, the food, vacation, and spending time with family. Getting presents is not on the top of my lists. I think some people get wrapped up in who wants what, how much to spend, who to give a present to. It’s important to show others you care for them, but this can come in many different ways then a gift you buy at the store. Just get creative. You may think of something that will mean even more than some gift from the mall.
