As the semester starts winding down and the weather begins to cool I find the lines at Starbucks growing more and more. I think everyone can agree that Starbucks is awesome. The drinks are delicious, the energy boost is great, and it can warm you up on a chilly morning. The only thing that keeps me from visiting Starbucks, in addition to most coffee shops, is that it is so expensive. Think about getting a $4 drink every morning. That is $28 a week, and almost $120 a month. I love my coffee, but not that much. So instead of splurging on Starbucks, I make my own drinks at home that are just as good. Here are some of my recipes for delicious coffee drinks.
3/4 cup double-strength coffee
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 cup low-fat milk
2 cups ice
3 Tbls. Hershey’s Chocolate
Make double strength coffee by using twice as much coffee than normal. Chill the coffee. Then blend all the ingredients together. Add whip cream on the top to make it even more special.
Another way to make great coffee, especially for those who enjoy something hot, is to invest in an espresso machine. Espresso machines can be very expensive, however, there are ones that can range from $50-$80. Purchasing one will still save you money in the long run.
I have my own espresso machine at home where I can make cappuccinos and lattes myself. All you need is espresso beans and milk. If I want to get really fancy, I will purchase different flavoring like vanilla or pumpkin spice from the grocery store and add a tablespoon in my coffee. Or I might sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top.
You can be your own barista if you want to be. It is fun to discover new coffee drinks, and I save so much money avoiding the overly priced drinks at coffee shops. Christmas is coming up, and an espresso machine would be the perfect gift to ask for, and they last forever. My mom has had hers for over 10 years and it is still going strong.
