Decorating on a Dime!

When spending your money you have your priorities like school, shelter, food, and gas for your car. Once that is taken care of, it’s nice to use what’s left over for extras, like decorating your house. Some people think decorating is overrated, however, throwing around a little color in your home can really brighten the mood and make it feel like a cozier place. Decorating doesn’t have to be expensive. All you need now a day is a couple crafting supplies, a pinterest page, and a creative idea.

Best way to decorate your place is by crafts. I know not everyone has a crafting gene, but there is really some simple, totally awesome ideas out there that anyone can do. I have two friends that made wall decorations using toilet paper cardboard rolls and spray paint. I bought a wooden “R” (for Rachel) from Hobby Lobby and painted a cool design on it, hot glued a ribbon to it, and hung it on my door. The next project I want to try is those paintings you find on pinterest that use a canvas and a package of crayons. You just tape the crayons to the top and melt the wax on the canvas with a hair dryer.

Another way to make your place pretty without spending the big bucks is checking out garage sales. Wake up early (before 8:00) on a Saturday morning and ride around different neighborhoods. There is always a garage sale going on somewhere in town. If you find something you like, try to negotiate the price as well. Most people just want the junk out of their house. Another one’s junk is someone else’s treasure! Spruce up stuff with a new paint job or polishing. Just remember to clean it off first.

Another fun way to decorate your home is by putting up pictures. Buy a bulletin board or hang up some string with clothespins to post pictures up in your living room. Make it fun by using funny friends pictures, roommate photos, are cute baby photos of you!

Visit the dollar store for inexpensive items. Use your imagination to transform everyday items into decorations. Make it a game with your friends or roommates. Use ten dollars to buy random stuff at a dollar store and use the items and build wall art, a cool lampshade, or an interesting sculpture. Even if it doesn’t look amazing it can be a great conversation starter.

When moving into a new place, don’t skip out on decorating it a little. A little effort can go a long way, and you can make some really neat looking decorations with some creativity, glitter, and hot
