Hope everyone had a great time watching the Aggies triumph in last Saturday’s
game. I spent the entire day on campus, walking from one tailgate to another then
going to Kyle Field to watch the big game. It’s great to be apart of an awesome
tailgate, one with tons of food, music, friends, and enough ice to keep the beer cold.
Some tailgates are pretty elaborate with everything from TV’s to fancy grills. It
got me thinking about ways to have an amazing tailgate that is also affordable and
Best way to save is to BYOB. If you get your friends to bring their own drinks, it will
save you so much on buying sodas or a keg. Plus, you don’t have to worry about
people paying you back. It is also a big help with setting up and taking down. It gives
you a lot less to carry to and from your car, and a lot less ice to worry about storing.
The next best way to save money at a tailgate is to prepare food ahead of time.
Hotdogs and hamburgers always seem like the way to go, but it requires work
and more items like buns and condiments. Instead, prepared a bunch of breakfast
burritos for a morning game, or mix together a huge pot of gumbo for you and your
friends. This will give you the opportunity to relax during the game, and you won’t
need to buy a whole bunch of extra items to go with it. Also, gumbo would be a great
dish for the LSU/A&M game if you want to go with a theme!
Another way to save on tailgating is to borrow. Don’t go out and buy fold up chairs,
tables, or things of that nature. Before you make those purchases ask around. There
is a good chance that one of your neighbors, family, or friends has those things lying
around. In addition, don’t be afraid to ask around for food as well. Parents are just
dying to cook for their kids. Have them prepare a couple dishes that you could bring
along. You wouldn’t have done any of the work, and your friends will love you for
the home-cooked meal.
When it comes to college football, tailgating is the way to go. Gathering with friends,
showing your school pride, and having a couple of drinks are the best ways to start
off the game. Don’t miss out because you can’t afford it. Use these tips and host your
own tailgate, and get ready for some more A&M victories still to come. WHOOP!
