There is nothing wrong with having a drink or 2 during the week. Some studies even show that small amounts of wine are actually good for protecting your heart from some cardiovascular diseases. But what are large amounts of alcohol actually doing to your body?
In the short term, alcohol is putting fat on your body, dehydrating you, and hindering production of your muscles. Alcohol is a dehydrator, which besides sucking water out of your body, also hinders the production of growth hormones. Less growth hormones means that your muscles grow and gain tone at a slower rate. After working out hard all week, drinking alcohol causes your body to focus more on eliminating this toxin from your body and less on allowing your muscles to recover and building your muscle mass.

Bud Light has 110 calories
Ziegenbock has 136 calories
A shot of Smirnoff Vodka has 56 calories
A shot of 1800 Tequila has 69 calories
A shot of Jack Daniels is 69 calories.
In small doses, this is not too high of a calorie content, but after 3 or 4 drinks, the amount of calories you are ingesting is about equivalent to a meal.
In the long term, alcohol disrupts brain development, causes liver damage, decreases sperm production for men, increases your blood pressure (this leads to heart attacks and strokes), and leads to low levels of iron and vitamin B (this leads to anemia).
So feel free to drink, but when doing so, drink in moderation. Have one drink instead of 4, and when you get hungry, snack on foods that are not high in fat content.
