In 140 characters or less, users of Twitter have the opportunity to say anything and everything, and other users have the opportunity to take those characters for whatever they think they're worth.
Submitted for interpretation: 96 characters from Texas A&M star sophomore quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, whose tweets have become microscope material for pundits, fans, and haters.
As reported by multiple media outlets including Deadspin, in the early minutes of Sunday morning, Manziel sent the following, which has been edited for language:
"Bull**** like tonight is a reason why I can't wait to leave college station...whenever it may be"
That tweet no longer appears on Manziel's account. Instead, another message sits there, posted a few minutes before 1:00 a.m. Sunday:
"Don't ever forget that I love A&M with all of my heart, but please please walk a day in my shoes"
Two minutes later, a Twitter user accused Manziel of being under the influence. His response: "false you're an idiot."
It's unclear what exactly happened that led to the original tweet, but Manziel is in unchartered territory as the only freshman Heisman winner, a frontrunner to go back-to-back, a super-celebrity in a university community, and a young man who has had the opportunity to hang out at major sporting events and with major celebrities, much of which he has detailed on the very Twitter account he sent the Sunday morning words that have caught the attention of the sports world...again.
Manziel is eligible for the National Football League Draft after this coming college season.
