There seems to an app for just about everything these days, and now the Texas Alcoholic and Beverage Commission has a few apps of their own. One of which allows you to instantly file a complaint against a restaurant or bar for violations.

"The hope is it will help stop some of the violations related to alcohol," said Major Randy Field of the Texas Alcoholic and Beverage Commission.

They now have a new way to go undercover in a bar or restaurant: through a phone app.

"Within 30 seconds or a minute you can file a complaint very simply, very easily," Field said.

It's called the Complaint Reporting App. It's a portable way people can report a restaurant or bar for violations.

"There are check boxes for the more popular violations: serving minors, serving intoxicated patrons," Field said.

He said the app is another way they are trying to keep up with the trends in electronic age.

"We felt like this was one of the ways to streamline or expedite complaint filing," Field said

Field said the app allows an instant simplicity to filing a complaint, and can help them find the locations that are violating the law much faster than before. However, restaurant owners in Bryan-College Station are worried that the convenience of this app may lead it to be abused. Field says this concern has been brought to their attention, but restaurant owners are still skeptic.

"I don't know if I typically agree with the whole app," said bar owner Barry Ivins.

Ivins owns several restaurants and bars in Bryan-College Station. He says this app puts more pressure on bartenders.

"Someone with their phone could go back with their phone and file a report on you, which is a Class B misdemeanor - which is the same as a DWI, for someone who is just doing their job," Ivins said.

It's still in it's early stages, but both restaurant owners and TABC agree that it is a positive innovation for everyone.

"Everybody needs to be watched; it keeps everybody doing a good job," Ivins said.

The Complaint Reporting App is free to download and is available on iPhone and on Android.
