COSTA MESA, CALIF. — Authorities say seven Orange County elementary school students had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital after they were given bites of a brownie they didn't know was laced with marijuana.

Costa Mesa Deputy Fire Chief Fred Seguin says the Pomona Elementary School students became ill, complaining of breathing trouble, nausea and vomiting just after noon Tuesday.

A student who brought the laced brownie to school had the other children take bites without telling them what was in it. One student noticed the brownie tasted funny and asked what was in it. That's when they found out they'd been drugged.

The sick children were between 10 and 12 years old. They were taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.

Police also responded, but did not immediately respond to phone messages.
