SPLENDORA (AP) Montgomery County Precinct 4 deputy constables made an unexpected find while making a drug bust at a home in Splendora on Tuesday afternoon.
They found a 6-foot long alligator and a dozen poisonous snakes, including a boa constrictor, roaming around the residence.
“We came to do a follow-up on a narcotics investigation,” said Constable Deputy R. Hayden. “The alligator was walking around freely.”
The homeowner Michael Terry kept them as pets, and the alligator slept on the couch, according to deputies.
Texas Parks and Wildlife contacted wild game trapper Hal Newsome to remove the reptiles from the property.
Newsome required the assistance of several deputies to hold the 100-pound gator down.
“We put a rope on her, took her for a walk, put her in the trailer and now she’s back in the pond,” Newsome said.
He said it appeared the gator had never been in water. The alligator hesitated for a few minutes before disappearing in the pond.
“Now she’s a happy alligator,” Newsome said.
Deputies arrested Terry for possession of marijuana.
