FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (AP) - Three U.S. hostages rescued from
Colombian rebels after more than five years in captivity are said
to be in good condition and learning how to live a normal life
again.
The three U.S. military contractors had been held by the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia since their
drug-surveillance plane went down in the jungle in February 2003.
They were among 15 hostages rescued by Colombian forces in a
daring mission Wednesday.
The men arrived in the U.S. late Wednesday. They were then taken
to Fort Sam Houston in Texas to undergo tests and to be reunited
with family members.
One of the former hostages -- Thomas Howes -- has a birthday
tomorrow, on the Fourth of July.
