Austin, TX – Friday, the National Rifle Association (NRA) commended Kay Bailey Hutchison for her unwavering support of Second Amendment Rights as her campaign for Governor formally announced the “Sportsman for Kay” coalition. This coalition brings together sportsmen from all across Texas who support Kay Bailey Hutchison because of her strong conservative record of supporting the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.
“As Senator, you have demonstrated a proven commitment to our Second Amendment rights by voting against all anti-gun bills and amendments that have been considered; cosponsoring and voting for pro-gun bills and amendments. On behalf of the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) and more than 300,000 NRA members in Texas, I want to express our sincere appreciation for your active leadership and consistent support for the Second Amendment,” said Chris Cox, Chairman of the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF). “Your ‘A+’ rating from the NRA-PVF reflects your strong support for our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.” For the full letter go to: http://texans.forkay.com/uploads/KBH_Letter.pdf
J.D. Williams, Chairman of Sportsman for Kay, highlighted Hutchison’s record of supporting gun rights, including her “A+” rating from the NRA, as one of the many reasons the group has come together to help Hutchison in her campaign for governor. Williams also serves as a director for the NRA and is a Life Member and Defender of the Texas Rifle Association.
“Kay has always been a friend to gun owners and those who believe we must actively work to defend the Second Amendment,” Williams said. “With Kay as our next governor, gun rights defenders will have no better friend in the governor’s office.”
Hutchison, a longtime gun owner herself, thanked the members of Sportsman for Kay, saying, “This group means a great deal to me. As Texans, we cherish our Second Amendment rights which I’ve spent my career defending. As the governor of Texas, I will continue to stand up to those who seek to erode one of our most fundamental rights.”
In the Senate, Hutchison led the charge in the Heller Case to lift a gun ban imposed on the citizens of Washington, D.C., and ensure that the Second Amendment is an individual right. Through her efforts, 304 Members of Congress came together to file a Supreme Court brief in support of overturning the ban and defining gun rights as an individual right. In addition to lifting the ban in D.C., Hutchison has a National Rifle Association lifetime rating of A+ and fought liberal efforts to ban firearms and ammunition.
“Kay has an outstanding record of defending our rights as gun owners. When Kay is elected governor, we can trust her that she will continue her defense of Second Amendment rights for all Texans,” concluded J.D. Williams.
