Senator Steve Ogden defeated opponent Ben Bius in the March GOP primary.
As of early Wednesday morning with votes still being counted, Ogden had 68 percent of the ballots in his favor. The incumbent now looks to November to try and retain his District 5 seat in the senate.
"I thought it was a challenging campaign because it was relatively short and I've never had to run against an opponent in a Republican primary. Every time before it's always been me as a Republican versus a Democrat, so it was different, and it was challenging," Ogden said at his victory party Tuesday night.
Ogden will face Democratic opponent Stephen M. Wyman in the November general election.
