Brown, Winn Head to Runoff for TX House

Posted: Wed 12:29 AM, Mar 03, 2010

Fred Brown earned the most votes Tuesday during the Republican primary, but he didn't earn enough to avoid an April runoff.

Former Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Buddy Winn garnered 26 percent of the votes in the race for the GOP nomination for Texas House District 14. While he fell short of the incumbent Brown's 44 percent, there will be a runoff because no one earned more than 50 percent of the total votes.

Attorney Rick Davis earned 18 percent Tuesday, with Blinn College professor Blanche Brick winning 13 percent.

Brown and Winn will now look to April 13 and the runoff for the House seat. There are no Democrats running, meaning the winner of the runoff is all-but-assured of going to Austin for the next legislative session.

Winn spent the better part of three decades in his assessor-collector spot before retiring just a few years ago. Brown has spent the last 12 years as the House representative for the vast majority of Brazos County.
