CS Candidate Misfiles Election Paperwork for City Council Run

Posted: Tue 3:23 PM, Aug 21, 2012

A would-be College Station city council candidate did not properly fill out his form to file for the election, according to the city. As a result, Arthur Pinto's name has been taken off the list of candidates.

Pinto was wanting to vie for Place 4 on the council, but according to city spokesperson Jay Socol, Pinto failed to fill out the portion of the one-page form noting continuous residence in the state and the city. Since the form was incomplete, it could not be accepted.

Pinto was informed Tuesday. He had turned the form in Monday, which was the last day to file for the November elections. The form was part of a packet Pinto picked up at a June 26 seminar for prospective candidates, according to Socol.

As a result, John Nichols is the lone candidate for the Place 4 seat being vacated by Katy-Marie Lyles. It also means no city council or school board races for the November election are contested.

Pinto has the option to file as a write-in candidate.

Last year, Pinto opposed Karl Mooney for the Place 3 seat on the council, but lost.

In College Station, eligible residents can file for any seat on the council because they are all at-large and don't represent a specific geographic portion of the city.
