The final votes in the too-close-to-call race for College Station city council are due Monday night.
When the votes were counted on Election Night last Tuesday, Jana McMillan led John Nichols by just 78 votes in the contest to fill the unexpired term for Place 5. McMillan had 6,130 votes to Nichols' 6,052.
However, that does not include ballots being mailed in, and election officials say there's as many as 800 of those that could come in. The deadline to receive them is 5 p.m. Monday.
According to city officials, the outstanding votes will be counted Tuesday starting at 1 p.m.
The winner is set to be sworn in at Wednesday afternoon's council workshop meeting. The delay in getting the final results did not affect the swearing-in, as it was always scheduled to take place this Wednesday.
Either McMillan or Nichols will serve the final seven months of the late Larry Stewart's term. Stewart died while on vacation this summer.
