A Republican nominee to represent the rural Texas State House District 12 will be chosen. The candidates are appearing on First News at Four this week.

Tucker Anderson finished with the most votes in May's five-person race for the newly-drawn House district. He scored just shy of 30 percent, with Brazos County rancher Kyle Kacal finishing second with 24 percent, meaning both those men headed to the July 31 runoff.

The winner will face Democrat Robert Stem of Waco in November.

Anderson is from Calvert and touts himself as a sixth generation Texan. He owns and operates a family farm in Robertson County in addition to being a lawyer and legislative adviser. Anderson graduated from Texas A&M and St. Mary's School of Law. His only other run for office came in 2006 when he made an unsuccessful run for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House in District 17.

District 12 covers mostly rural portions of Brazos County, eastern portions of McLennan County, and all of Robertson, Falls and Limestone Counties.

Wednesday on First News at Four, Kacal will be live in studio to discuss his campaign and his platform.
