Monday was the deadline for would-be candidates to file for their parties' primaries in Texas, but because of the court battles involving redistricting, the Texas House and Senate campaigners will wait a bit longer, along with U.S. congressional candidates.
Still, races at the county level are ready to go.
In Brazos County, there will be just one contested race, and it's a four-horse race for the District Attorney seat. Former District Court Judge Rick Davis will seek the office he came up short for last election. Like Davis, David Hilburn is currently a local defense attorney, but he used to be a prosecutor in the DA's office.
A pair of current assistant DAs are also in the running. Jarvis Parsons serves as the chief prosecutor in the 272nd District Court and has worked in Brazos County since 2002. Ray Thomas has been in the same office since 2005, and helps present indictments to grand juries.
All four candidates are Republicans, and are looking to replace Democrat Bill Turner, who is retiring from the office after nearly three decades.
All other races are uncontested with Republican incumbents running.
Because of potential court rulings in the future, county officials could not rule out the filing period being reopened down the line for county races.
