Kacal Edges Anderson in Texas House GOP Race

Updated: Wed 10:15 AM, Aug 01, 2012

Brazos County rancher Kyle Kacal earned the most votes after the Tuesday night count, but it was close.

Kacal, a Republican running for Texas House District 12 on the Republican side, edged Tucker Anderson.

Kacal had 4,230, or 50.88 percent. Anderson won 4,083 votes, or 49.11 percent.

Tuesday night, Anderson called Kacal and conceded the race.

Kacal is now set to face Democrat Robert Stem in the November general election.

District 12 covers rural portions of Brazos County, all of Robertson County and points north towards the Waco area.

Anderson actually won in four the five counties, but was defeated soundly in Brazos County, spelling defeat for the Calvert attorney.

Of the 8,313 votes cast, 3,346 were from Brazos County. Kacal earned about two out of every three.

Anderson won Robertson and Limestone Counties by wide margins, but only 2,205 of the total votes were cast there.

Falls and McLennan Counties had tight margins, but went to Anderson.

Kacal is a rancher from Brazos County who was making his first run for political office.
