Your last chance to make sure you can vote in the November 2012 elections is Tuesday.
Normally, the deadline to register is 30 days prior to the election, but October 6 fell on a Saturday.
That means Monday would have been the deadline day, but because it was Columbus Day -- a federal holiday -- Tuesday, October 9 became the deadline.
Visit your county's voter registrar office, tax office, a local post office or the Texas Secretary of State's website to find applications, which then can be dropped off at the voter registrar's office or mailed on or before the deadline.
Libraries in Bryan and College Station also have the forms.
More details from Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Kristeen Roe:
Voter application forms that are available are postage paid, and the postal service postmark determines the date of their application when mailing. If a registered voter has moved since voting last, it is important for them to make sure they have submitted the correct information to the voter registrar to ensure that they are assigned to the correct voting precinct. If your voter registration record is not correct, corrections have to be submitted on election day before registrants can vote. If you did not receive a new yellow and white voter certificate this year, there may be a problem with your record.
Voters can check their current status on the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.tx.us by choosing the “Am I registered?” option at the bottom of the screen. There are three ways to look yourself up in the system, by name, by driver’s license, or by VUID number. The VUID number is the number on your voter certificate. That number is assigned to each voter and does not change, so information from your old voter certificate will help you find your record on the website.
