A Brazos County prosecutor has won his party's nomination for district attorney and will all-but-certainly take the role this coming year.
Jarvis Parsons scored the victory in the Republican primary runoff Tuesday night, defeating defense attorney David Hilburn. Parsons had 55 percent to Hilburn's 45 percent.
With no Democrat running for the office, Parsons is set to become the next district attorney.
It will be a big change in the county, as Bill Turner has held the office since 1983. He decided to retire.
Turner endorsed Parsons for the office.
Parsons has been working in the DA's office since 2003. He won 48 percent of the vote in May's primary. Hilburn came in second with 22 percent. Since no one won the majority of the votes, a runoff was needed.
