The incumbent Republican representing most of Bryan/College Station in the Texas House will have the opportunity to win his first full term in office this November.
John Raney, a College Station business owner, won his race for District 14 Tuesday night, defeating Hal Hawkins. Raney earned 81 percent of the vote.
Democrat Judy LeUnes awaits Raney in the November general election. She was unopposed in her party's primary.
Last year, Raney fended off four other contenders, including LeUnes, to fill the unexpired term of longtime Representative Fred Brown, who resigned to pursue business interests outside of the district.
Hawkins, a real estate agent who has worked for the county Republican Party, was making his second run for office. He came up short in his bid to become a College Station city councilmember in 2011.
The next legislative session for Texas begins in January.
