Susan Myers followed in the footsteps of her father, mother and both brothers in earning her associate’s degree from Blinn College. Now Myers, former executive director of the Holocaust Museum Houston, will be returning to the Blinn family after the College’s Board of Trustees voted to appoint her the new executive director of the Blinn Foundation, Inc. on Tuesday.

“It feels like I’m coming home,” said Myers, who holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Sam Houston State University and a master’s degree in education administration from Prairie View A&M University. “It’s wonderful to come to a place you have a love for, where the entire community treasures its history and its contributions.”
Myers will replace Joe Al Picone, who announced his retirement in March.

“Susan’s experience in fundraising, development, administration, budget planning and marketing make her an ideal choice,” said Cathy Boeker, associate vice president for institutional advancement. “Her deep and genuine affection for Blinn College will be a tremendous asset as she builds upon our proud traditions to advance us to an even brighter future.”

Myers is a former chairman of the Houston Museum District Association and a recipient of the Ina and Jack Polak Outstanding Educator Award given by the Anne Frank Center USA in New York City for her efforts in heading what the center called “one of the most respected Holocaust museums in the nation.”

As vice president of the international Association of Holocaust Organizations, Myers helped administer activities for the 250-member international body.

Myers has also received recognition from the White House for her work on reconciling and remembering the genocide in Rwanda.
The Blinn Foundation is organized for the purpose of providing support for programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community. In addition to its fundraising efforts, the Foundation seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.

Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has raised almost $10 million for Blinn. Those funds have been used to help launch major construction projects across Blinn’s campuses, including the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall.

An additional $1 million has been spent purchasing classroom equipment and supplies requested by Blinn faculty, including simulation equipment in the Blinn College Allied Health facilities at the Texas A&M Health Science Center. The Foundation has also established $4.5 million in new endowed scholarships.
Myers will begin her new duties July 1.
