Bryan / Brenham, TX The Blinn College Board of Trustees approved an updated set of strategic priorities, goals and objectives Tuesday that will aid administrators in decision-making and ensure a streamlined vision for the College’s future.
The College identified student success, human capital and community enhancement as its strategic priorities after performing a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis for the overall institution and each campus. Administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members participated in developing the College’s strategic priorities, goals and objectives.
Each College department will next identify the specific tasks they must perform to help the College achieve its objectives. These tasks and other elements of the strategic plan will be used in the budget process to link expenditures to strategic priorities.
“A clearly communicated vision for the future not only benefits our employees, but also defines our values for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Harold Nolte, Blinn College district president. “We must continue to keep our students, employees and community at the forefront of our thoughts as we take action to ensure that we remain one of the premier community colleges in the state.”
Blinn transfers students to four-year universities at a rate unmatched by any other community college district in the state. The College’s 49.4 percent transfer rate to four-year institutions in 2012 was more than 20 percent higher than the state average (27.8 percent).
Blinn’s Transfer Enrollment at Texas A&M (Blinn TEAM) co-enrollment program, which ensures automatic transfer to Texas A&M for qualifying students, has allowed the admission of hundreds of qualified students that would have not otherwise been possible due to freshman and sophomore enrollment constraints at Texas A&M.
In 2012, Blinn was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest accolade an educational institution can receive from the federal government for its commitment to service and civic engagement.
Blinn’s community service outreach programs are spearheaded by its Service Learning Program, which combines community service with classroom instruction or student club activities, focusing on critical, reflective thinking and civic responsibility to engage students. Service Learning involves students in activities that address local needs while developing their academic or professional skills and commitment to their community.
Blinn enrolled 18,413 students this Fall and has experienced 31.1 percent growth since 2006.
Founded in 1883, the College’s tuition and fees average about one-third the cost of the same classes at most four-year public universities in the state. In addition to its campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg and Sealy, Blinn teaches online courses, dual credit for high school and prepares students for quick employment through its career and technical certification programs.
