Even before Blinn College students apply for their first scholarship, they are already receiving a college education at one-third the cost of most four-year colleges and universities in the state.

Those who take advantage of the College’s hundreds of scholarship opportunities get an even more affordable experience at a time when higher education costs are skyrocketing throughout the nation. The Blinn College Foundation has established 208 endowed scholarships and application opens today, Monday, Jan. 27, and will close at 5 p.m. March 28. All current and prospective Blinn students are encouraged to apply at www.blinn.edu/finaid/scholar.html.

Scholarships are available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, academic backgrounds and experiences. Though some scholarships are restricted to students who fit certain criteria, if a student who exemplifies those specific requirements does not apply, the scholarship may be offered to a wider range of students.
Rather than combing through the specifications of each scholarship, students interested in applying for endowed funds need only submit a general application.

“You never know who all is going to apply or who will meet the criteria,” said Brent Williford, Financial Aid director. “Submit an application for a chance to receive free money for college.”

This is also the time to begin filing for financial aid for the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters. Students can fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov". Institutions will begin processing information from the FAFSA in March and April. Students who have applied for admission to Blinn College will be notified at my.blinn.edu when their aid processing has begun and can find updates throughout the process at Blinn’s Financial Aid web page at www.blinn.edu/finaid/index.html.

Blinn students and prospective students can also register for external scholarships and participate in grant programs.
Blinn enrolled 18,413 students this Fall and has experienced 31.1 percent growth since 2006. In addition to its campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg and Sealy, the College teaches online courses, dual credit for high school and prepares students for quick employment through its career and technical certification programs.
