Railroading With Bob

Updated: Wed 9:22 AM, Aug 19, 2009

Bob French gives a day by day account of his Holiday Vacations "Railroading in the Rockies" trip, including pictures of the spectacular scenery and KBTX viewers' experiences in Canada.

Tuesday, August 18:

All aboard!  It was a clear morning, and not all that unpleasant compared to the rest of Summer 2009.  Twenty-three KBTX viewers boarded a tour bus in College Station along with your humble narrator, my wife Beth, and our tour guide, Russ, from Holiday Vacations.  We made the trek to Bush Intercontinental to catch our flight to Seattle, the first leg of our journey to the Canadian Rockies.  Boy, did it ever feel nice when we got here.  We understand that it's going to be a scorcher here in Seattle tomorrow, a forecast high of 92.  Heaven help these people!

We flew right over the Great Salt Lake today.  The western United States sure looks desolate from 36,000 feet.  One awesome sight, for sure, is Mt. Rainier reigning majestically over the Seattle metro area, still snow-covered in mid-August.  And I know that's just a prelude to what our trip holds in store.

Included here, are pictures of some of your friends, neighbors, and family members, on the first day of our trip.  It was just a travel day, but it was great to start getting to know each other.  Tomorrow we head across the Olympic Peninsula to Port Angeles, Washington, to catch the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia.

Will update tomorrow night from north of the border.

Bob
