Have You Ever Thought About "Going Chacon"?

Updated: Fri 7:55 AM, Jun 27, 2008

I'll be the first to tell ya that I'm pretty stubborn and at times can be difficult. I don't have a problem arguing my point, but I do understand authority! Former Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon would still have his $2 million a year job if he also understood authority!

I'll be the first to tell ya that I'm pretty stubborn and at times can be difficult. It's true. I don't have a problem arguing my point, but I do understand authority! Former Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon would still have his $2 million a year job if he also understood that!

There's nothing wrong with discussing your viewpoint with your boss or supervisor. I think it's good that you show compassion about something you believe in, not to mention that you're the one in the trenches that's going to have to accomplish what management is wanting done.

What I can't understand is what Chacon did to General Manager Ed Wade yesterday. If you're unaware, the "Cliff Notes' version" is that Chacon was mad that the Astros took him out of the starting rotation and demoted him to the bullpen. To add insult to injury, Wade requested that Chacon meet with him and Manager Cecil Cooper in Cooper's office to discuss his future. Chacon caught an attitude, refused the meeting, told Wade he could say whatever he needed to say to him right there in front of all the players in the club house. From what I've read, Wade apparently raised his voice, Chacon grabbed his throat and the two wound up on the floor, with the players eventually pulling them apart.

My question is, have you ever gotten to the point of  "Going Chacon"?

I can tell you that KBTX Media General Manager Mike Wright and I have had some "lively discussions", but I've never gotten close to "Going Chacon" and never would!

You've got to respect authority! It's something my folks taught my brothers and I, and something Lori and I have passed along to our kids.
