Bryan/College Station has hit 100 degrees for the first time this year. The high temperature reached 101 degrees at Easterwood Field, the official reporting site for B/CS, on Monday afternoon (7/21).
Tropical Storm Dolly is partially responsible for the spike in temperatures. While the air is rising in the tropical system -- and leading to heavy rain -- the air surrounding the storm is sinking. Sinking air compresses and warms up quickly, resulting in hot temperatures. Sinking air also prevents clouds and rain from developing, hence the fair skies across the region on Monday.
The previous warmest temperature this year was 99 degrees, which was hit several times in B/CS.
